Turtle Caramel Cake


– 1 cup chocolate chips

– 2 cups pecans

– 3/4 cup butter, melted

– 1/2 cup evaporated milk

– 1 bag (14 ounces) caramels

– 1 1/3 cups water (as specified by your cake mix)

– 1/3 cup oil (as specified by your cake mix)

– 3 eggs (as specified by your cake mix)

– 1 box (18 ounces) German chocolate cake mix


  1. Follow the instructions on the cake mix package to prepare the batter.
  2. Pour half of the cake batter into a 13×9 inch baking pan.
  3. Bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
  4. After baking, remove the pan and allow the cake to cool.
  5. In a double boiler, combine the caramels, evaporated milk, and melted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is fully melted.
  6. Drizzle the melted caramel mixture over the partially cooled cake.
  7. Evenly sprinkle 1 cup of pecans and the chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
  8. Pour the remaining cake batter over this layer and return to the oven.
  9. Bake for an additional 20 minutes.
