– 1 cup chocolate chips
– 2 cups pecans
– 3/4 cup butter, melted
– 1/2 cup evaporated milk
– 1 bag (14 ounces) caramels
– 1 1/3 cups water (as specified by your cake mix)
– 1/3 cup oil (as specified by your cake mix)
– 3 eggs (as specified by your cake mix)
– 1 box (18 ounces) German chocolate cake mix
Instructions:
- Follow the instructions on the cake mix package to prepare the batter.
- Pour half of the cake batter into a 13×9 inch baking pan.
- Bake in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
- After baking, remove the pan and allow the cake to cool.
- In a double boiler, combine the caramels, evaporated milk, and melted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is fully melted.
- Drizzle the melted caramel mixture over the partially cooled cake.
- Evenly sprinkle 1 cup of pecans and the chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
- Pour the remaining cake batter over this layer and return to the oven.
- Bake for an additional 20 minutes.
